Strategy-driven videography for today's world.

Phalanx Film Co. is a full-service video production company in Boise, ID.

We create stories to capture customers’ hearts and minds.

So how does this work?

  • Our process starts when you schedule a meeting with our team to begin creative development. We’re with you from day one to bring your creative vision to life.

We work with brands of all sizes and can handle all pre-production internally, or work with your content managers to script and storyboard your project.

  • Once we have a clear vision and actionable roadmap for your project, our talented team steps on set to shoot to spec.

  • Once our team concludes filming, our editors use the script and director’s notes to cut the program together. While many projects are edited end-to-end in-house, we are well-connected with colorists, VFX artists, sound mixers, etc., to create content for any application at a price that matches the value of the production.

  • We live in a world of mixed media, so many projects require multiple delivery formats. Need a version of your TV ad formatted for web use? We got it. Social media cuts? No problem. We’ll cover all this during pre-production, so when delivery time comes, you can count on getting everything you need.

In an industry known for being fiercely competitive, we prioritize character and collaboration. We are uniquely flexible and take a value-based approach to cinematography, with your story center-stage.

  • Yes! In fact, as a growth-focused videography group, we love working with smaller organizations to tell their stories and help them grow.

Our experience has been that the needs of large and small companies are essentially the same: to tell a story that converts a customer. We love the scrappy projects that help young organizations get off the ground and start changing the world.

  • Stories That Sell. We’re obsessed with strategy-driven storytelling: using media to solve problems and create growth outcomes for our clients. We’re in the business of quantifiable end results — it just happens to be through the medium of video production.

Side note: we’re a guerilla-style media group with a small nuclear team, specifically designed to maximize ROI for our clients. We keep overhead low and partner with specialist freelancers to deliver top-shelf content at prices that make sense. This flexible style of production has allowed us to work with a wide gamut of clients across industries, from solopreneurs to 9-figure corporations. You’re in good company!

  • It’s videography with a return on investment. Our goal is to change the world, one organization at a time, by creating content that carries our clients forward.

  • Yes, we can! We are FAA-licensed (Part 107) and carry drone-specific liability insurance for aerial video and photo projects. Aerial footage can be a standalone service or a valuable storytelling tool in a larger project.

  • This is a super common question, and the answer is… it depends! It’s like building a house, where the investment depends on the size, materials used, location, and other factors. We’d love to learn more about your goals to create a custom-tailored solution for you!

That being said, our minimum level of engagement for a full-service videography project is $1000, and our average project is around $3500.

Our Approach to Video Production

We’re obsessed with solving problems and moving our clients toward their goals. In fact, we’d say that we’re in the business of solving problems — we just happen to do so through videography.

  • At the heart of every brand is a story. For some, it’s a story in objectives (Tesla: a sustainable future), others a story in reputation (Rolex: quality and expertise), still others a story in values (Ford: a family company), and much more. We start with your story because customers don’t buy what you do — they buy why you do it.

    We discuss:
    • Organizational history
    • Brand values
    • Company mission & obectives
    • Brand audience
    • Product/service offerings

These pieces of your story are integral assets in our toolkit to create a strategy that speaks to your audience.

  • Clients always come to us either to solve a problem or achieve a goal, whether that’s to increase sales, educate an audience, or promote a new product. We are specialists in the space between concept and customer — partnering with you to discover and tell your story that will sell.

Our creative process starts with a creative development consultation to identify problems, develop your goals, and set ideal outcomes. Our priority is partnering with you to create strategy-driven (and high-quality) media.

The benefit to you? You don’t need to come to us with answers. Come with questions, problems, and goals, and we’ll work with you to develop a strategy to meet your objectives.

  • There is no one-size-fits-all approach to videography. The reason so many relationships between videographers and their clients fail is because of a failure to treat the creative endeavor as a partnership.

We work closely with our clients to develop project scope so that the service, deliverables, and budget fit tightly with their goals. Our project development is highly collaborative and custom-tailored to every client, every time.

  • We are on mission to change the world, one organization at a time, by moving our clients forward. Beautiful videos go a long way, but if they aren’t goal-directed — i.e., solving a specific problem or advancing an objective — they leave a lot on the table.

By the time we get to production, you’ll have a very clear roadmap from point A (your goals) to point B (those goals realized) with cinematography in between.

Ready to tell your story?

Services we offer:

Pre-Production

  • If you come to us with a fully fleshed-out video idea, that’s great! But you absolutely don’t need to — all we need to get started is the bare bones of an idea, or even just the goal you’d like to achieve for your brand.

We relish the opportunity to sit down with our clients, understand their goals, and work from there to conceive a story that will capture their audience.

  • Once the conceptual framework for your project built, we use that to write the script. Depending on the scope of your project, this is something we can do in-house, or resource one of our industry partners who specializes in writing for broadcast, documentary, or whichever genre your project falls into.

  • Location, location, location! True for real estate, and equally true for video. Choosing the right location is integral to storytelling, and beyond that it brings a host of logistical elements. We handle these for you — from scouting for accessibility, power, and local weather to registering with local municipalities and acquiring filming permits, where needed.

  • Once the creative aspects of pre-production are locked in, this is arguably the most important part. We create detailed schedules for each project, along with call sheets and other supporting docs where needed.

  • The beauty of our model is found in the flexibility and quality of our industry partner network. We love building teams for each production, and would love to help find the right crew to tell your story.

Production

  • It’s the DP’s responsibility to move the creative vision of the production forward through choice of camera, lens, filter, frame rate, camera movement, etc. This is the role we most commonly take on set, whether we’re behind the lens ourselves or managing cam ops.

  • What the director is creatively, the producer is logistically. The two work in tandem to actually make the creative part work. We pride ourselves on extreme organization and efficiency, and where some might see headaches, we see opportunities.

  • Because we use in-house equipment most of the time, we’re intimately familiar with our gear and know the right settings and rigging to achieve the best results. We’re also FAA-107 certified for remote piloting, and we love putting an eye in the sky when that perspective suits your story!

Post-Production

  • This is where it all comes together. The planning, the prep, the days on set — it’s all assembled into a cohesive flow in the editing suite.

Like production, we maintain a kit of the latest editing hardware to supercharge your project, and we have years of editing experience. We’re also connected with specialty editors in specific genres (i.e., documentary, horror, etc.) and would love to bring them onto the project if someone else’s narrative touch will better suit your story.

  • You’d think expensive cinema cameras would produce beautiful images straight-from-camera, but it’s actually the opposite: their information-rich codecs come from the camera looking drab and grey. As such, coloring can be one of the most exciting parts of the storytelling process, as clients literally see life breathed back into their images before their eyes.

We pride ourselves on creating technically-accurate and beautiful images in-house, but we’re also connected with full-time colorists for stories where the scope demands perfection.

  • Here’s a challenge: in the abundance of free time we all have these days (haha) — watch one of your favorite movies without any sound. Then reverse it: turn off the picture and just listen. You’ll find that the story truly lives in the soundtrack; it’s arguably the most important part of a moving picture, ironically.

Whether you’re delivering for web, cinema surround sound, or anything in between, our experience and our network of specialists means we’ll get you that perfect mix for any project.

  • We live in a world of mixed media, and delivery format matters. Once your project is complete, we export to your specifications, so the project will look, feel, and sound its best in its viewing environment.
